It’s that time of year again, summer is fast approaching and you’ve decided that this would be the year to get a swimming pool for the family. And that’s just great, but also a bit ordinary. Instead of just having an ordinary swimming pool, why not turn that swimming pool into a home improvement project and have a brand new deck built, with a deck pool as part of the plan!

When deciding to make this type of a home improvement there are several things to consider. Considerations include among other things, the type of material to be used in building the deck, these materials include:

Stone Decking – A wonderful material for adding exceptional aesthetics to your deck and your yard. You can obtain stone for decking in many different sizes and color choices. Though not one of the least expensive materials listed, stone is stylish and exceedingly resilient.

Composite Decking – Within the last few years, composite decking has become a broadly popular alternative to solid wood for deck construction for several reasons. One reason being that although composite decking tends to cost more than a traditional wood product, due to the materials that are used in it’s manufacture, it also has greatly increased durability and resiliency. With the slightly higher cost but greatly decreased maintenance, the trade-off is usually considered reasonable.

Wood – Wood being unarguably the least expensive of popular decking materials is probably the most used when it comes to deck construction, very much due to its availability and affordability; this of course will definitely reduce the cost of your deck project.

Poured Concrete – Very popular because of it’s versatility in terms of design and architecture. Concrete can be stamped and colored to resemble real brick, tile, and even stone.

With every material having it’s own properties and costs associated with it above and beyond cost it is sometimes surprising that the main point of consideration is cost only for some people. Cost however, is definitely not the only point to consider. You also want to think about the aesthetics and durability that you are trying to achieve. A deck should compliment and accent the design of the home and property as a whole. Badly clashing styles can actually reduce a properties value even if the items that are stylishly at odds are in new condition.

It’s also a major point to consider how much space you have but also whether or not you need to match materials with any pre-existing structures like a deck or patio that you are remodeling. This is a good time to call a quality contractor. Consulting a professional is just plain smart if you aren’t a licensed contractor yourself. It can make things much faster, safer and easier on the homeowner and save you from costly mistakes.

When it comes to deck design, whether you want to replicate a rocky hill, a smooth planed wood deck or anything else the only limits are your imagination and your budget. Now is a perfect time to get a pool ready for your friends and family to truly enjoy by building a custom deck pool.
